Statement of Function
The Indian River Soil and Water Conservation District (IRSWCD) was organized for the purpose of developing a program of management and conservation of the soil, water and related natural resources of the County, and to promote and encourage the voluntary implementation of conservation practices on privately owned land. A locally elected board of non-salaried public officials governs the District. The District works in cooperation with the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services (FDACS) and the United States Department of Agriculture Natural Resources Conservation Service (USDA/NRCS).
Mission Statement
The Indian River Soil and Water Conservation District’s (IRSWCD) mission is to provide natural resources planning and assessment as well as assisting citizens to apply conservation and preservation technology, and to educate the citizens, small groups, and units of government in these technologies.

Tree Planting Program
The Arbor Day Free Tree Planting Program was held on May 13 & 14 and proved to be very successful!. Twenty bald cypress trees for each subdivision were supplied and planted around water retention ponds at no cost to the homeowners’ association. This is the second year of a three year effort to retrofit urban storm water retention ponds in Indian River County. The subdivisions that participated this year are: Tanglewood Village MHP, Oak Island, Fountain Head Garden Villas, Indian River Estates West and Indian River Estates East. We had excellent volunteers help us out this year from Best Buy, Youth Volunteer Corp, and the Master Gardeners. See slide show
