Statement of Function
The Stormwater Division is charged with reducing to the maximum extent practicable, the pollution of the
Indian River Lagoon caused by stormwater runoff and base groundwater flow. It is also responsible for insuring
that Indian River County complies with the requirements of the federally mandated National Pollutant Discharge
Elimination System (NPDES) Phase II Permit criteria. These goals are accomplished through the design,
construction, and management of regional stormwater pollution control systems; through education programs;
and through sediment and erosion control enforcement and monitoring.
TO REPORT FLOODING AND OTHER STORMWATER CONCERNS

Storm Drain Marking Program
Get involved! Storm drain marking involves labeling storm drain inlets with plaques, tiles, painted or precast messages warning citizens not to dump pollutants into the drain. The message, “Dump No Waste Leads to Lagoon” is a simple phrase to remind those passing by that the storm drains connect to local waterbodies and that dumping will pollute those waters. |
Monthly Stormwater Newsletter - Turning the Tide
The Stormwater Newsletter “Turning the Tide,” offers citizens interesting environmental education material, valuable pollution prevention techniques, and information on current events and news affecting the Indian River Lagoon. |
 |
Environmental Compliance Manual (PDF 25.8 MB)
The purpose of this Manual is to discuss certain best management practices that when used appropriately and when correctly constructed and maintained, are capable of preventing or reducing harmful effects of erosion from storm water runoff. This Manual is not intended to specify the BMPs to be used at any specific project site. |
