Failing Septic Systems
Improperly functioning septic systems are recognized as a significant contributor to pollutants and microbiological pathogens. Identifying and eliminating failing septic systems will help control contamination of ground and surface water supplies from untreated wastewater discharges. Indian River County Stormwater Division acknowledges, encourages, and supports government agencies and other organizations intent on educating the public on the proper care and maintenance of their septic tank systems.
 
Identifying Illicit Connections
Indian River County Stormwater Division along with Code Enforcement and the Environmental Health Department encourages the public to report any sightings of illicit discharge via illegal connections to the storm drain system.
 
Illegal Dumping
The dumping of unregulated materials to an unlicensed facility may pose a hazardous threat to the public. Report any sightings of illegal dumping to the Indian River County Stormwater Division, Code Enforcement, Environmental Health Department or your local law enforcement agency.
 
Industrial/Business Connections
Unregulated discharges from an industry or business may contain a variety of pollutants that can affect both public safety and the aquatic environment. Report any sightings of illicit connections to the storm drain system to the Indian River County Stormwater Division, Code Enforcement, Environmental Health Department, and your local law enforcement agency.
 
Recreational Sewage
The improper disposal of recreational sewage may have an adverse affect on the aquatic environment. Report any sightings of recreational dumping to the operator in charge of the marina, the Indian River County Stormwater Division, and appropriate law enforcement agency.
 
Sanitary Sewer Overflows
The raw sewage from sanitary sewer overflows contains bacteria and nutrients that affect both human and environmental health. Report sanitary sewer overflows to the Indian River County Stormwater Division, Code Enforcement, Environmental Health Department, and your local law enforcement agency.
 
Wastewater Connections to the Storm Drain System
Report wastewater connections to the storm drain system to the Indian River County Stormwater Division, Code Enforcement, Environmental Health Department, and your local law enforcement agency.
