Controls That Improve Water Quality
Controls That Improve Water Quality
Reductions in impervious cover and runoff are key elements of this very important measure. Items such as alternative turnarounds and pavers, bioretention cells, narrower residential streets, on-lot treatments systems, porous pavement, sand and organic filters, stormwater wetlands, and urban forestry reduce impervious cover and runoff and minimize water quality impacts. Indian River County Stormwater Division encourages and supports controls that improve water quality.

Buffer Zones
Indian River County development codes determine the amount of land that should be set-aside for buffer zones, catch basins, conservation easements, and open space designs. Buffer zones, catch basins, conservation easements, and open space designs improve the quality of stormwater runoff leaving the area. For more information contact Indian River County Community Development.
