Statement of Function
The Coastal Engineering Division of the Public Works Department is responsible for the management of issues relating to the County's beaches and coastal environments. A major function is the implementation of the County's Beach Preservation Plan, which calls for the restoration of critically eroding beach segments with sand from offshore sources. The Division is also responsible for developing and implementing a Habitat Conservation Plan for sea turtles, in order to authorize the County to issue emergency shoreline protection permits to residents whose properties are threatened by acute beach erosion. The division also serves as a resource for the public and other County Departments to provide information and advice on beach erosion and coastal armoring, and also manages the County's artificial reef program.

The Sector 3 project will place approximately 472,000 cubic yards of beach compatible
sand along this 6.6 mile stretch of beach
near Sebastian Inlet. Obtain more information including project plans, project benifits, frequently asked questions, and project updates & reports by visiting the Sector 3 Project page | General Beach Restoration Information
