The Indian River County Attorney's office provides legal services to the Board of County Commissioners, the County Administrator, county departments and county boards, as necessary. Legal services include providing legal advice on a variety of subjects affecting county government, reviewing Board of County Commissioners agenda items, attending meetings of the Board of County Commissioners, the Planning and Zoning Commission and certain advisory committees. The Indian River County Attorney's Office defends and brings lawsuits on behalf of the County, draft ordinances and resolutions, and prepares and reviews contracts and negotiates real estate purchase and sale agreements. The Indian River County Attorney's Office Voluntary Internship Program provides interns with an opportunity to experience many areas of civil law with the exception of family and personal injury law. Interns must be strong writers and will primarily be focused on research. Interns will also attend various County meetings, including those of the Board of County Commissioners. Interns may also draft local ordinances; assist attorneys with litigation, mediation and appellate work; and attend court hearings. If you are interested in participating in the Indian River County Voluntary Internship Program, please contact Shelley Nowlin at (772) 226-1449 or snowlin@ircgov.com. The Indian River County Attorney's Office generally does not have more than one voluntary intern at one time. The Indian River County Attorney's Office is willing to consider applications from students who have finished at least one semester of law school and are currently enrolled in law school or recent law school graduates. |
