This property is a spoil island (Spoil Island IR-25) located in the Indian River Lagoon, west of the Intracoastal Waterway (ICW), approximately 110 meters NW of Channel Marker 120. The Island is owned by the State Board of trustees of the Internal Improvement Trust Fund (BTIITF). In 1996, Indian River County entered into a 10-year agreement with the State to manage the island facilities. In March 2010, the County entered into a formal sovereignty submerged lands lease with the BTIITF for use of the southern portion of Boat Club island for public recreation. Subsequent to this lease, the County obtained monies to improve the docks on-site. These renovations were completed to two of the docks, although the recent 2016 Hurricane Matthew caused some damage to the larger dock, which the County is processing required repairs.
