The Oyster Bar Marsh Conservation Area is a large mangrove wetland/impoundment that extends from the barrier island into the Indian River Lagoon. Purchased in conjunction with the Indian River Land Trust, this 96-acre parcel provides refuge to numerous wading birds, fish species, and herpetofauna. Its proximity to the Round Island Conservation Area creates a broad, shallow expanse of River bottom suitable for seagrass establishment and potential manatee foraging.
An existing perimeter trail provides access for mosquito control staff. The property is not currently open to the public, however, the County is working with the Land Trust on developing a walking trail with viewing areas so that the public can enjoy the scenic River views. Please refer to our website for updates on the progress of our efforts to create passive recreation opportunities on this property.
