The Schnee Family Conservation Area is a 10-acre tract located just west of U.S. 1 on Barber Street. The site is dominated by oak scrub, although the eastern portion has been cleared in the past and is dominated by upland grasses. The oak scrub on-site is home to a pair of Florida scrub-jays, and is part of the County's effort to provide managed conservation lands for this protected species. The scrub also is home to many Florida gopher tortoises, which are protected by the State of Florida as a Threatened Species..
The site is within a residential area and abuts Barber Street, therefore there is a concern about wildlife crossing this road. Signs have been installed to inform the public about the need for controlling speed and being aware of wildlife crossing the road. The site is not open to the public, and at this time the County does not have any current plans to develop passive recreation opportunities on the site. Please refer to our website home page for the map showing the location of this Preserve. We encourage the public to enjoy observing wildlife and learning about our conservation efforts.
